As a life long craftsman with a love of fine tools, Jim Blauvelt dove down the blade smiths rabbit hole in 2014 Making custom woodworking tools and knives. As a professional joiner with a 42 year background as a custom woodworker and timber frame carpenter it was only by virtue of natural progression he became interested in making tools and knives. What started as a passionate interest grew into a desire to offer fine blades to users and collectors. Thus Bluewater Forge was born. We offer fine blades. Woodworking planes and plane blades, Chisels for woodworkers and timber frame carpenters, Yariganna (spear planes) and carving knives. As Jim’s background is in Japanese carpentry, his woodworking tools are styled after Japanese styles. Utilizing two layer construction. Fine tool steel forge welded to wrought iron or mild steel. Making very user friendly blades. Jim also makes fine knives for craftsman sportsman and chefs. Differentially heat treated mono steel blades in carbon steel, 3 layer blades (carbon steel bits clad in various steels or iron) and his passion, Feather pattern welded art blades.
